Cukrovar v Litoli a podnikatelská rodina Beniesů The Sugar Factory in Litol and the Benies Entrepreneurial Family
The paper familiarizes the reader briefly with the history of the sugar factory established in the years 1871/1872 in Litol,
which is a part of the town of Lysá upon Elbe today. Special attention is paid to the owners of the sugar factory, the entrepreneurial
family of the Vienna financiers, brothers Jindřich, Michael and David Benies, who bought the factory in 1887 and made it a part
of the family “sugar empire”. In its heyday – during the company’s management by Michael Benies († 1923) – the sugar factories
in Litol and Černožice and the sugar refinery in Rosice near the town of Pardubice formed the backbone of the enterprise. Besides
the property-right development, the paper focuses on the impact of the factory upon the municipality’s building development.
In the case of Litol, the “organic” housing development consisting of the sugar makers’ villas and working class and clerks’
housing was the most natural factor, which contributed to the gradual connection of the independent municipality of Litol with
the town of Lysá upon Elbe. This factor – in the case of the villas and one-family houses – dictated a qualitative standard
of the housing in the developing settlement. In the author’s opinion, after closing down the sugar factory, recent demolishment
of its building (one of the last buildings was demolished in 2009) and establishing of a parking place at the site of the former
factory, the urbanistic situation and the site as such lost its legibility and quality, respectively. Also, an alone standing
cubistic villa designed by the architect Emil Králíček remained as a monument of a one-time sugar factory.

Příspěvek seznamuje s dějinami cukrovaru v Litoli-Lysé nad Labem, založeného roku 1871/1872. Pozornost je věnována osobnostem
majitelů cukrovaru, zejména pak podnikatelské rodině Beniesů, která továrnu zakoupila v roce 1887 a vytvořila z ní součást
rodinného cukrovarnického imperia trvajícího až do roku 1938. V dobách rozkvětu za správy podniku Michaelem Benisem († 1923)
byly páteří firmy cukrovary v Litoli a Černožicích a rafinerie v Rosicích u Pardubic. Příspěvek se věnuje i vlivu továrny
na stavební rozvoj okolí. Organická zástavba obytných vil, dělnických a úřednických domů v okolí cukrovaru pomohla postupnému
přirozenému propojení města Lysá nad Labem a obce Litol a také určila kvalitativní standard architektury rozvíjející se obce.
Po zrušení cukrovaru, zbourání jeho budov v nedávných letech a po výstavbě parkoviště v místech, kde se továrna nacházela,
došlo dle mého názoru ke ztrátě urbanistické kvality a čitelnosti místa. Z organicky rostoucího celku zůstalo jen několik budov,
které ztratily protějšek, ke kterému kdysi orientovaly svá průčelí.
