Sugar Production in Indonesia
The article deals with the past and present of Indonesian sugar industry. It clearly identifies the causes leading to the loss of the important position
on the world sugar markets Indonesia used to hold in the past. The rigidity of local sugar industry combined with trade restrictions vis-à-vis foreign
countries rather conserves the current status-quo. The reforms of the past decades described in the text have not led to a more radical change either.
Therefore, the latest effort of local government to use outputs of Indonesian sugar industry for biofuels appears, due to the unsolved problems, rather unreal.

Článek řeší minulost i přítomnost indonéského cukrovarnictví. Jasně identifikuje příčiny, které vedly ke ztrátě kdysi významné pozice Indonésie na světových
trzích s cukrem. Rigidita tamního cukrovarnictví kombinovaná s omezeními obchodu ve vztahu k zahraničí spíše konzervuje dosavadní status-quo a ani v textu
popisované reformy minulých dekád k razantnější změně nevedly. Poslední snaha místní vlády využívat výstupy indonéského cukrovarnictví pro biopaliva se tak
kvůli nevyřešeným problémům jeví spíše jako nereálná.
