110 let od počátku organizovaného řepařského hnutí v českých zemích 110 Years of Organized Sugar Beet Farming Movement in the Czech Lands
In 2012, 110 years have passed since the establishment of the Central Unity of Sugar Beet Farmers for the Czech Kingdom, which
represented a significant turning point on the way to enforcement of the professional interests of the farmers – sugar beet
growers against the approaches of the owners of sugar beet factories when selling the sugar beet. After a brief presentation
of the situation related to the formation of sugar beet production areas in the Czech lands during the second half of the 19th century
and looking back at the then primitive technique related to growing sugar beet, the attention is turned to the issue of the
relationship between sugar beet growing and sugar industry as “connected vessels”. From the beginning, however, strained relations
prevailed among them. The owners of sugar factories began to create cartel associations through which they tried to dominate the
“market” with sugar beet. On the contrary, the sugar beet growing movement established Central Unity as a defensive group, which
operated completely in the “direction” of the Agrarian Party; with its help the Agrarians managed to assert themselves economically
and politically in the Czech rural areas.

V roce 2012 uplynulo 110 let od založení Ústřední jednoty řepařů pro Království české, což představovalo významný mezník na cestě
k prosazování profesních zájmů rolníků-pěstitelů cukrové řepy proti přístupům majitelů cukrovarů při prodeji cukrové řepy. Po stručném
představení situace související s vytvářením řepařských výrobních oblastí na území českých zemí v průběhu druhé poloviny 19. století
a ohlédnutí se za tehdejší primitivní technikou související s pěstováním cukrovky, je pozornost obrácena k problematice vztahu mezi
řepařstvím a cukrovarnictvím, k těmto dvěma „spojitým nádobám“. Od počátku však mezi nimi spíše převažovaly napjaté vztahy. Cukrovarníci
si začali vytvářet kartelová sdružení, jimiž se snažili ovládat „trh“ s cukrovkou. Naopak jako obranné uskupení si sílící řepařské hnutí
založilo Ústřední jednotu, která zcela fungovala v „režii“ agrární strany; pomocí ní se agrárníkům dařilo prosadit se ekonomicky
i politicky na českém venkově.
